Alba has been officially designated by the Ministry of Culture as Italy’s second Capital of Contemporary Art, succeeding Gibellina. The Project Dossier: What Are the "Fabbriche del Vento"?

Alba’s candidacy outperformed the competition thanks to an ambitious project dossier titled "Le fabbriche del vento" (The Wind Factories). This evocative name pays direct tribute to Pinot Gallizio, the celebrated artist from Alba, inventor of industrial painting and a key figure in the 20th-century avant-garde.

As outlined in the Official Project Summary by the City of Alba, the concept celebrates our region’s capacity to generate ideas and creativity—intangible like the wind, yet deeply connected to the land, innovation, and the local community. Leading this extraordinary cultural initiative is a world-class team, chaired by the President of the promoting committee, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, and supported by the Mayor of Alba, Alberto Gatto.

The big news: The Biennale delle Langhe is born

The beating heart of 2027 will not be a simple sequence of exhibitions, but the birth of a true institution: the Biennale delle Langhe. This platform for artistic production and research will inaugurate its very first edition during the year of celebrations, with the aim of leaving a lasting and tangible legacy through permanent outdoor installations and artworks.

What makes this project unique is its "polycentric" model, known as Capitali Sorelle (Sister Capitals). In July 2026 the project entered its operational phase: the Municipality of Alba and the Association Le Fabbriche del Vento launched an official open call for municipalities wishing to join the network. Vigne ad Arte: art moves into wineries and restaurants

From spring 2027, selected wineries and restaurants will host contemporary art exhibitions and installations created in collaboration with leading Italian art galleries.
